Visit by International Author & Founder of Arrowsmith Program
At the beginning of March, DDCS was proud to host Barbara Arrowsmith-Young for an evening during her international book tour. Barbara arrived in Toowoomba on the Thursday afternoon, and shared her journey of overcoming learning difficulties with our senior students. Students were reminded that our brain is not fixed, it is plastic and can improve our ability to learn.
On Thursday evening, Barbara presented to over 130 people in our community about “Changing Brains, Exploring a New Reality – Neuroplasticity and Learning”. We heard testimonials from parents, past students and teachers of the Arrowsmith Program here at DDCS. To finish the evening, attendees had the opportunity to buy Barbara Arrowsmith-Young’s book, have it signed, and talk with Barbara or Debbie Gilmore (Executive Director of the Arrowsmith Program). It was an inspirational evening.
Friday morning, DDCS had the pleasure to celebrate its own journey with the Arrowsmith Program. Barbara and Debbie visited the current students working in the Arrowsmith Program before past and present parents and students joined for morning tea. It was a lovely relaxed morning where everyone could share and reflect.
We were also presented with a plaque “In recognition of providing the Arrowsmith Program for 5 years at Darling Downs Christian School” during Barbara’s visit to Toowoomba. The students who have worked in the Arrowsmith Program during our last 5 years can be commended for the effort that they have made in strengthening their cognitive capabilities. Dare to Dream!
